- Civil Engineer II - Utilities (2 positions)
Description
Reporting to a Utility Manager in the Public Works Department, the Civil Engineer II performs professional-level and technically complex civil engineering work in connection with a variety of Public Works projects. This position is responsible for, but not limited to, duties such as analyzing, researching, planning, and designing of municipal structures and systems; reviewing development plans, and/or leading Civil Engineer I’s or technical support staff in projects and work assignments; and reviewing and stamping work performed by unlicensed engineers. May be assigned to supervise temporary or seasonal positions within assigned section.
The Civil Engineer II classification is distinguished from Civil Engineer I due to professional engineer license requirement and work assignments of managing more technically complex design projects, and performance of responsibilities including reviewing and stamping work of unlicensed engineers.
This recruitment is being used to fill two (2) open positions. One is required to have a diverse set of skills, including utility planning, program support, project management, and project delivery. The second is focused on utility infrastructure design, project management, and project delivery. Candidates may be selected to fill either role.

Requirements
At the Civil Engineer II Level ($9,832.45-$11,687.66)
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field and AND four (4) years of civil engineering experience.
*May have a combination of experience, education, and training that would substitute for the above requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSE(S):
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Washington or equivalent license in another state and the ability to obtain a Washington State Professional Engineer license within six months of hire date.
Must maintain a level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Must be attentive to job safety considerations and follows all required safety policies, procedures and techniques.
Must pass a thorough background investigation and successfully complete pre-employment medical testing for the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license at time of hire OR must obtain within thirty (30) days from date of hire and must have a driving record acceptable to the City and the City’s insurance carrier.
Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be complete as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
Emergency Management (NIMS/FEMA) certifications must be obtained within one (1) year of employment.
At the Civil Engineer I Level ($9,358.65-$11,124.46)
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or registration as an engineer-in-training AND a minimum of one (1) year of engineering experience in construction design, water, stormwater, and/or wastewater.
*May have a combination of experience, education, and training that would substitute for the above requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSE(S):
Registration as an engineer-in-training or the ability to obtain within sixty (60) days of hire.
Must maintain a level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Must be attentive to job safety considerations and follows all required safety policies, procedures and techniques.
Must pass a thorough background investigation and successfully complete pre-employment medical testing for the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license at time of hire OR must obtain within thirty (30) days from date of hire and must have a driving record acceptable to the City and the City’s insurance carrier.

At the Project Manager Level ($8,479.69-$10,078.24)
A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or Project Management OR certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) AND a minimum of one (1) year of experience in project management or design of capital projects.OR
An Associates degree in Engineering, or Project Management OR certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) AND a minimum of three (3) years of experience in project management or design of capital projects.OR
A H.S. Diploma or equivalent OR certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) AND a minimum of five (5) years of experience in project management or design of capital projects.
*May have a combination of experience, education, and training that would substitute for the above requirements.
