Teen Feed
Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
Teen Feed was founded 25 years ago to work with the community to offer support to meet basic needs, build strong relationships, and ally with homeless youth as they meet their future off the streets. With the tremendous support of the community, Teen Feed responds to the most basic needs of homeless youth with three programs:
Teen Feed serves hot, nutritious meals, in the University District, seven nights a week, 365 days a year, and averages between 40 and 70 youth guests per night. A team of trained staff and volunteer advocates are present at every Teen Feed meal. In 2011, Teen Feed served over 13,000 meals over a total of 365 evenings. Teen Feed is largely funded by in-kind food and facility donations as well as individual financial donations.
Service Links to Youth (SLY) is a one-on-one case management program designed to help youth who are ready to transition from life on the street into achieving specific goals such as obtaining employment, housing or a GED. SLY is near-fully funded by the City of Seattle Human Services Department.
Street Talk Outreach Program (STOP) is aimed at high-risk homeless youth who avoid traditional social service agencies. STOP sends teams of outreach counselors to meet youth in their own environment—the streets, alleys, and shops of the University District. In 2011, STOP made over 1,300 contacts with youth, a 33% increase from 2010. STOP is funded by grants and individual giving.
Teen Feed has an operating budget of over $700,000, a staff of 8, and a Board of Directors of up to 12 members. The staff leadership team currently consists of the Executive Director and Development and Communications Director, with robust program-level leadership supplemented from the STOP and Teen Feed Program Managers.
