Company Profile

Plymouth Healing Communities

Company Overview

Plymouth Healing Communities (PHC) provides companionship, affordable housing, circles of support, and advocacy for individuals who live with mental illness and have experienced homelessness. We know that healing takes place when vulnerable people are shown the care, love, and respect all people deserve.

Our model is to recognize the dignity and health of the individual first and provide wraparound services. Services are provided by live-in companions in transitional housing; one-on-one and property-based volunteers; program management that includes resident services coordination and peer counseling; and tenant-centric property management that puts housing first. For nearly twenty years, we've been providing these services to people who would otherwise be among the most vulnerable among us.

Company History

PHC was founded in 2000 to address the chronic and devastating problem of people exiting psychiatric hospitalization into homelessness. The vision was to create a home where people with mental illness could live alongside community volunteers, called companions, who would share in their journey towards healing, hope and stability and to create community knowledge about and compassion for people living with mental illness. Since it opened in 2001, House of Healing, our first location, has provided respite/transitional housing to 170+ residents and 61+ volunteer companions have helped to make it a home. Rehospitalizations have been reduced by an astonishing 82%, and 95% of residents who have left the House of Healing have exited into permanent housing.

Besides House of Healing, we also own and operate and five Permanent Supportive Housing Sites. PHC also provides property management and supportive services to another affordable apartment building in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. At each of our sites we partner with Harborview Mental Health to provide integrated services.
