Company History
PCAF grew out of meetings held in 1987 by citizens of Tacoma who were concerned about the needs of persons living with AIDS. The first staff member was hired in late 1987 to educate the public with emphasis on providing educational materials to members of the gay community in Pierce County. PCAF was established as a nonprofit organization in 1988, and elected a Board of Directors to define the organization's policies and procedures, and to hire the agency's first Executive Director. PCAF quickly became a leader in Pierce County by providing services such as case management for people who were HIV infected and serving primary roles in prevention education for high risk populations. In 2012, PCAF began providing services in Thurston and Lewis counties which had previously been provided by UCAN, which closed its doors in 2011. PCAF now serves a 4 county region of the South Sound.
