Information Schools
Changing how people view information
Information Schools are interested in the relationship between information, technology, and people. Expertise in all areas of information is required for the advancement of science, business, education, and culture. This expertise must include understanding of the uses and users of information, as well as information technologies and their applications.
The range of activities at information schools is expanding as schools tackle organizational and social issues related to the way people create, store, find, manipulate and share information. Faculty, staff and students at the University of Washington Information School are committed to shaping how people view and use information.
The University of Washington Information School: A home for future innovators and leaders
Each year, the world creates more than 161 exabytes of new information—enough to fill 2 billion 80GB iPods. So much information can be overwhelming. Rigorous study of the users and uses of information conducted at the UW Information School helps answer questions like:
* How can we connect people with the right information at the right time?
* How can we use information to help people achieve their potential?
* How can we harness the capacity of information as an agent for positive change?
By tackling key social and technical problems in the information field, the UW iSchool has become an important link between users of information and designers of information systems, connecting society with the information it needs.
From its location in the Pacific Northwest, the iSchool and its work are deepening the connections between the region, Asia and the rest of the world. We strengthen connections between policy makers and the people their work impacts, and act as a crucial link between where we are as an information society and the future we envision for ourselves.
