SALARY RANGE
The starting salary range for this position is $136,880 - $171,100 (based on qualifications). With tenure and strong performance in this role an employee may earn up to a maximum of $205,320 annualized.
Introductory Period: New employees holding regular positions must complete an introductory period of twelve months.

Supervisor - Substation & Distribution Engineering
Overview
The Supervisor - Substation & Distribution Engineering provides leadership, oversight, and technical guidance for a team of engineers engaged in substation, switchyard, and overhead/underground (OH/UG) distribution system work. This position serves as a gateway for engineers transitioning from individual contributor roles into formal leadership and management. The Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising engineering activities that support operations, maintenance, capital projects, and regulatory compliance. The role also includes performance of senior-level electrical engineering work as needed and ensures team output meets safety, reliability, and compliance standards.
Responsibilities
- Supervision & Work Coordination: Plan, assign, coordinate, and monitor work of the electrical engineering team. Establish clear priorities and goals aligned with operational needs and strategic objectives. Monitor work activity status and report to management. Approve personal time off and bi-weekly time approval for assigned engineers.
- Technical Review & Guidance: Review engineering designs and calculations for adequacy, safety, reliability, and compliance. Provide technical input on substation, switchyard, and OH/UG distribution designs. Provide guidance and mentorship to team members. Perform senior-level electrical engineering work related to substation, switchyard, and OH/UG distribution systems.
- Standardization & Quality Assurance: Develop, document, and maintain engineering standards, work instructions, and QA/QC processes. Ensure consistent, high-quality engineering output and support development of standard procedures for other engineers.
- Performance Management: Lead performance planning and evaluation for team members. Provide coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to support growth and succession planning.
- Project Support: Oversee and provide project management for small capital projects. Coordinate technical input, resource planning, and construction support. Ensure project alignment with District standards and provide cost estimates and equipment specifications.
- Compliance Oversight: Support compliance with applicable NERC/WECC reliability standards. Maintain awareness of emerging standards and industry trends. Ensure engineering activities remain in compliance.
- Troubleshooting & O&M Support: Troubleshoot system problems in coordination with Operations & Maintenance (O&M) programs and crews. Support root cause analysis and resolution.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance: Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Comply with District policies. Complete all required training. Maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and specific safety requirements of this position, and those in accordance with applicable provisions of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC). - As a secondary function, drive a motorized vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the District.

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Electrical Engineering or closely related field is required.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in at least one of the following areas—substation engineering, switchyard engineering, or overhead/underground (OH/UG) distribution—with the ability and willingness to learn the others is required.
- While not required, supervisory experience is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) License in the State of Washington is preferred.
