Spanish Teacher (K–1)/Highly Capable Project-Based Learning Instructor
Leave Replacement March–June 2026 (Temporary Position)
Spokane International Academy (SIA) is seeking a dynamic, creative, and student-centered educator to serve in a temporary dual-role position beginning March 2026 through June 2026. This role includes Spanish instruction for Kindergarten and 1st Grade students (leave replacement) and Highly Capable instruction focused on project-based learning (PBL), culture, identity, and passion projects.

Position Details
FTE: 1.0 (temporary)
Contract Dates: March–June 2026
Grade Levels: Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and identified Highly Capable students
Instructional Focus: Spanish language acquisition, global culture, identity exploration, and project-based learning
Key Responsibilities
Deliver developmentally appropriate Spanish instruction for early learners, emphasizing:
Listening and speaking skills
Foundational vocabulary and language structures
Songs, movement, stories, visuals, and play-based learning
Foster a joyful, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment that builds students’ confidence and curiosity in language learning.
Integrate cultural awareness and global perspectives connected to Spanish-speaking communities.
Collaborate with grade-level teachers to align instruction with classroom learning and schoolwide goals.
Highly Capable / Project-Based Learning Instruction
Design and facilitate project-based learning experiences for Highly Capable students that:
Center student voice, choice, and inquiry
Explore culture, identity, global connections, and real-world issues
Support students in developing passion projects aligned to their interests and strengths
Guide students through the PBL process, including:
Question development and research
Collaboration and problem-solving
Reflection, presentation, and celebration of learning
Create learning experiences that promote creativity, critical thinking, and self-direction.
Classroom Environment & Student Support
Establish a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment that supports diverse learners.
Use proactive classroom management strategies aligned with SIA policies and best practices.
Support the needs of all learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and multilingual learners.
Promote social-emotional learning, collaboration, and respectful student interactions.
Assessment & Feedback
Use formative assessments appropriate for early learners and project-based learning contexts.
Provide timely, constructive feedback to students to support growth and reflection.
Maintain accurate documentation of student learning as required.
Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, specialists, and administrators.
Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and professional learning as appropriate for a temporary role.
Communicate clearly and professionally with families regarding learning experiences and student growth.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Spanish, or a related field
Valid Washington State K-8 teaching certificate or ability to obtain appropriate temporary authorization
Fluency in Spanish
Experience working with early elementary students
Experience or strong interest in project-based learning, inquiry-based instruction, or enrichment/highly capable education
Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
Strong communication skills and cultural competence
Alignment with Spokane International Academy’s mission and values
Preferred Qualifications
Native or near-native Spanish proficiency
Experience teaching Spanish to primary-grade students
Experience designing or facilitating project-based or enrichment learning
Experience in charter schools or diverse educational settings
Background in global studies, cultural studies, or interdisciplinary instruction
