TerraPower's Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) program is commercializing the technology to operate a fast spectrum, chloride salt cooled molten salt reactor. The Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE) is slated to be the first liquid-fueled, fast spectrum reactor built and operated and will be constructed at Idaho National Laboratory.
Senior Manufacturing Quality Engineer, Mechanical Design, MCFR
TerraPower is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Quality Engineer to support the Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) Program and the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE). This position reports to the MCFR Mechanical Design Discipline Management. The role centers on maintaining quality in MCFR designs throughout the development cycle, beginning with the MCRE Mockup and evolving towards MCFR Demonstration Reactor Components. You'll collaborate with engineering teams, suppliers, and partners in a high-performing, multi-disciplinary environment to identify and mitigate risks, recognize opportunities for improvement, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations. This role is hybrid with on-site at least four days per week. The ability to be physically present at our Bellevue, WA headquarters normally and at our Everett, WA laboratory during Mockup construction, as needed, is a requirement.
Join us in this mechanical design role to help advance a first-of-a-kind nuclear reactor towards commercial development.
Responsibilities:
• Ensure that engineering documentation, including design and test documentation, meets the required quality standards (e.g. SPECs, SOWs, drawings).
• Review vendor documentation including fabrication/shop drawings, weld procedure specifications, weld procedure qualification records, and manufacturing data packages.
• Provide guidance and support to project teams to ensure quality requirements are met and that risks are identified and mitigated.
• Support quality activities at Everett, WA location during Mockup construction phase such as receipt inspection and material handling.
• Ensure receipt inspections of materials are scheduled and completed in accordance with company quality procedure and verify completion of required documentation (e.g. POs, MTRs).
• Coordinate Company review and approval of vendor testing and inspections plans.
• Coordinate Company witness testing and first article inspections at suppliers/vendors.
• Witness key supplier activities, including machining, welding, NDE, pre-shipment inspection.
• Investigate product and production issues, support root cause analysis, coordinate the development/implementation of corrective and preventative actions in accordance with the Corporate Corrective Action Program.
• Support supplier audits per NQA-1.
• Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.
Key Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience for level 10, or 10 years of relevant experience for level 11. Experience level may be partially substituted for advanced degree depending on position relevance.
• Experience working under a quality program (NQA-1 or ISO 9001)
• Experience with Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
• Demonstrated build and assembly experience.
• Experience with manufacturing tolerances, welding, common manufacturing practices.
• Experience with inspection, including common measurement tools and weld inspection.
• Self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision/direction.
• The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with:
o ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) Section III or Section VIII, and ASME B31 Piping Codes.
o OSHA rules and regulations.
o Nuclear or industrial construction experience.
o Atlassian tools such as Confluence and Jira.

Job Details:
Salary Range Level 10: $117,922 - $176,833
Salary Range Level 11: $138,685 - $208,027
*We typically place offers in the lower to middle portion of the range to maintain internal equity and allow room for growth. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual's qualifications experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
