- Director of Accounting
Description
The Director of Accounting is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and maintenance of accounting practices that result in providing comprehensive financial reporting, analytics, forecasting, and budgeting. Oversees the credit union’s operating expenses, month-end close process, external financial audits, and the general ledger system. Ensures that financial reporting, accounting records, accounting policies, and procedures are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and NCUA requirements. Assists members and staff with related issues when appropriate. Demonstrates leadership in developing and managing employees and in contributing toward vision and direction of the organization. Promotes and supports the organization’s, mission, values, and culture. Works to support high employee engagement and is a cultural champion.
Requirements
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Graduate degree or professional license (CPA or CMA) preferred.
Knowledge: Has supervisory/managerial responsibilities. Strong knowledge of Asset Liability Management Analysis. Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, Credit Union industry accounting practices and procedures, and governmental regulations and reporting requirements. Ability to understand and produce annual financial business plan. Technical understanding of automated accounting and other industry information systems
Experience Required: Five to eight years of related progressive experience in a financial institution of a similar or larger size. Supervisory experience required.
