About Us: Established in 1990, the USCC is dedicated to the development, expansion, and promotion of the composting industry. The USCC achieves its mission – “to advance composting and promote compost use to enhance soils and provide economic and environmental benefits for members and society” – by encouraging, supporting and performing compost-related research, promoting best management practices, establishing standards, educating professionals and the public about the benefits of composting and compost utilization, enhancing compost product quality, and developing training materials for composters and markets for compost products. USCC members include compost producers, marketers, equipment manufacturers, product suppliers, academic institutions, public agencies, nonprofit groups, and consulting/engineering firms. New member outreach also includes homeowners, environmental educators, and organizations that promote green living and sustainability.
Position Overview: This multidisciplinary position will lead a targeted national campaign to expand compost markets in non-agricultural sectors through targeted social and traditional marketing and strategic partnerships. This role will manage multiple campaigns tailored to distinct audiences, applying behavior change principles to shift practices and purchasing decisions. The Manager will also oversee the creation of sector-specific toolkits, web-based tools, and case studies that demonstrate compost’s benefits and applications, helping decision-makers adopt compost as a practical, cost-effective, and sustainable solution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project-manage key parts of a multi-year federal grant targeted at growing compost use.
- Lead the design and execution of multiple, concurrent outreach marketing campaigns.
- Ensure the messaging incorporates behavior change strategies to encourage compost adoption across diverse sectors.
- Manage campaign timelines, budgets, deliverables, and partner contributions.
- Develop sector-specific toolkits, case studies, and web-based resources.
- Oversee the creation and dissemination of compelling communications materials that highlight compost’s value.
- Manage a schedule of presentations at conferences, webinars, and industry events to promote campaign outcomes.
- Lead team efforts to identify and prioritize non-agricultural compost market opportunities.
- Monitor and evaluate campaign effectiveness using measurable indicators of engagement and behavior change.
- Stay informed on policy, industry, and market trends affecting compost demand.
- Support USCC’s annual conference, events, and committees.
- All other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required Skills and Experience:
- Experience in grant management, project management, and/or compost sales and markets
- Experience developing partnerships across public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and facilitation skills.
- Familiarity with composting, soil health, and organic recycling
- Strategic campaign planner with strong execution skills.
- Data-driven and outcome-oriented, with experience tracking and reporting impact.
- Supervision experience

Position Main Areas of Focus:

This is a five-year, grant-funded position.
Travel: Overnight travel may be expected (10-15 days).
Minimum Requirements: Project Management experience; study in agriculture, horticulture, agronomy, and or the life sciences preferred, or equivalent, compost site operation, or in business/project management with minors in agriculture, etc. OR at least four years of compost sales in non-agricultural sectors
