Salary: $87,637 - $95,411
Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Community Education Manager, the Community Education Coordinator is responsible for assisting with and coordinating all programs and activities associated with Community Education. The purpose of this position is to provide continuity, support, and ensure the proper operation of the program, after-hours activities, and act as a liaison for the program with staff, schools, instructors, and the community.
The Community Education Coordinator supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of Community Education programs and services. This position helps connect the schools and community by managing class schedules, facility use, community partnerships, and program logistics. The ideal candidate is organized, community-focused, and enjoys creating opportunities for lifelong learning and engagement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the scheduling of Community Education classes, including arranging facilities, materials, and managing registration and payments.
- Assist in managing the Community Education budget in partnership with the Business Office and Community Education Manager.
- Support technical data collection and documentation necessary for grant writing and administration.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the Community Education website.
- Coordinate and maintain registration procedures for Community Education classes, leagues, childcare, and summer programs.
- Communicate often with families and staff regarding program updates, events, and individual needs.
- Collaborate with community and city partners to support joint initiatives and strengthen community connections.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor program effectiveness and guide continuous improvement.
- Generate new ideas for classes, camps, and community opportunities to meet local interests and needs.
- Work closely with school administrators, custodians, maintenance, and other district staff to coordinate facility use.
- Maintain partnerships with local organizations ie: Timbers, Lacrosse, and Camas Rugby.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for community facility scheduling—balancing school and community needs for building and field use.
- Assist with use and rental agreements, ensuring all contracts, insurance, 501(c)(3) documentation, and fees are properly collected and recorded.
- Invoice and collect payment from groups in a timely manner; ensure all accounts are current prior to use.
- Review and communicate facility use guidelines and safety requirements with community users; ensure compliance.
- Support the setup and management of school-hosted community activities and events as needed.
- Establish and maintain positive community partnerships with local organizations, families, and groups.
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Community Education office, including walk-in and phone inquiries.
- Maintain all required program documentation and reports.
- Implement and uphold policies and procedures for all Community Education programs.
- Coordinate and oversee youth and adult sports leagues.
- Assist with the coordination and oversight of childcare programs in the absence of the manager.
- Work effectively and collaboratively in an office team environment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Community Education Manager to ensure the successful operation of the program.
Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of and practical experience in an educational or community-based environment.
- Education: Associate degree in Education, Community Relations, Recreation, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in community recreation, education, or program coordination.
- Strong technical and computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Docs/Sheets, MLS, and Intouch receipting systems.
- Knowledge of basic accounting and bookkeeping practices.
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service and community engagement.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines effectively.
- Ability to represent Camas School District and Camas Community Education in a professional and positive manner.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with families, staff, and community partners.
Work Environment:
This position operates in both an office and school setting and involves frequent communication with community members, school staff, and local organizations. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for events or community programs.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: approximately 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.
Benefits:
School Employee Benefit Board (SEBB) Eligibility determination: All eligibility determinations are based on rules in Chapters 182-30 and 182-31 of the Washington Administrative Code (WAC). If the position is anticipated to work a minimum of 630 hours in a school year, then that position would be deemed benefit eligible. SEBB benefits include medical, vision, dental, long-term disability and life insurance. Supplemental coverages are also available.
Retirement Eligibility determination: A certificated position participates in the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) which requires at least 5 months of 70 or more hours of compensated employment during a school year to be eligible for Washington State Retirement. A classified position participates in the School Employee Retirement System (SERS) if the position is expected to require at least 5 months of 70 hours or more for two consecutive years (initially) of employment.
